Hi all,

I’ve been working on Version 4 of the of the WA Course Design Checklist<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1p3XTNoCmKbFxPkvETDX6bIPZBNXVdDxOyaTNXpsRs18/edit?usp=sharing> and thought you might like to take a sneak peek. I’d love to hear what you think. If you’d like to share your thoughts or offer suggestions, please reply to this message, or fill out the WA Checklist (V4) Preview feedback form<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fforms.gle%2fACwvJFMEDYnqqbZj7&c=E,1,qdpAoZu_wA75uB8aT9KCOOlkGZ-O8McHmOnWQ5rXmtOOcXqmD2xsd3JMzMxISayui4Nhx4CaGDfIeJ2PcdDYfJ89bb0_vxcrVAYVazBOOD1QdqYQfWV3&typo=1> by Thursday, June 9th.

What’s new and different in Version 4<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1p3XTNoCmKbFxPkvETDX6bIPZBNXVdDxOyaTNXpsRs18/edit?usp=sharing>? Here is a list of the revisions I’ve made so far:

  * Incorporated feedback from WA Checklist equity review team.
  * Replaced “Essential, Best Practice, and Exemplary” with “Essentials and Next Steps” to remove the unintentionally implied levels of good, better, best.
  * Replaced “Standards” with “Checkpoints” to increase approachability.
  * Relocated, combined, and/or removed duplicate Indicators to simplify and improve alignment of concepts and topics across the document.
  * Separated Section 1 into the following sections:

     * Section 1 - focuses on sense of belonging, student engagement, and human bias
     * Section 5 - focuses on course orientation, course structure, and course navigation

  * Separated the lengthy (V3) 4.4. Accessibility standard into three new Checkpoints:

     * 4.5 – focuses on support and resources
     *   4.6 – focuses on text-based content
     *   4.7 – focuses on multimedia content

  * Added several new Indicators to improve focus on equity and to fill in missing topics:

     *   1.1.b – welcoming and invitational language
     *   1.1.d, 2.1.e, 2.2.f, 3.2.f, 3.3.e, and 4.2.f – co-creation of the learning environment and content
     *   1.2.d – active learning
     *   1.2.f – critical thinking
     *   1.2.i – collaborative learning
     *   1.2.j, 2.1.f, 2.2.g, 3.1.h, 4.1.g, 4.2.h, 4.3.f, and 4.9.d – inviting students to offer feedback on various components of the course
     *   1.3.a, 1.3.b, 1.3.c, and 1.3.d – human bias
     *   2.1.b – appropriateness/relevance of course outcomes
     *   3.4.a – course grading scheme
     *   3.4.g – alternative grading strategies
     * 4.2.b – resources represent multiple identities, communities, and perspectives
     *   4.4.a – academic integrity
     * 4.6.j. – table of contents for lengthy text-based content
     * 4.8.f – discussion about importance of data privacy
     * 5.1.g – providing space to ask questions and check understanding of course start information
     *   5.1.j – inviting students to connect 1:1
     * 5.3.f – introductory summary pages for learning units
     * 5.3.g – consistent structure for learning units

  * Rephrased or removed unmeasurable Indicators that fell outside the scope of the course review process.
  * Rephrased Checkpoints and Indicators in active voice and simplified sentence structure to improve readability and clarity.
  * Fine-tuned phrasing throughout for consistency of language within sections and across the document for readability and clarity.
I’ve done my best to track the major changes within the preview document, but I may have missed a few things. An asterisk “*” following a sentence indicates an attached comment and new items are marked as “NEW”. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a time to chat, please let me know. 😊

I look forward to hearing your thoughts and please share this message with your campus.

Thanks,

😊 Alissa
