Calling Instructional Deans and Faculty Department Chairs . . .

* Do you have a wisdom circle of people you trust among your peer group to turn to for problem solving and idea generating?

* Are you interested in building a community of SBCTC Instructional Deans and Chairs who focus on support and continuous improvement for your role at your college?

* Could you benefit from sharing ideas and seeking effective solutions to systemic problems of practice?
If these questions, and the potential they imply, excite you . . .

Join your colleagues from around the system for inquiry into all of the above!

Tell me More, Please . . .
We intend to build a strong network of peer support for our Instructional Deans and Chairs throughout the SBCTC system.

We have used the Transparency Framework from the Transparency in Learning and Teaching (TILT Higher Ed<http://bit.ly/2JrAccf>) to design the overall model, and we will use the generative structure of Purpose/Task/Criteria to plan future gatherings.

Purpose
Provide structured, supported time and space for Instructional Deans and Chairs to unite, share, grow, and build through the framework of a Community of Practice (CoP). This first meeting will initiate community building for this group of professionals within our system.

Knowledge
This first meeting will introduce participants to the following concepts and practices:

*       Transparency Framework

*       Double Confidentiality,

*       Norm Setting,

*       Problems of Practice,

*       Step Back Consulting.

Skills
Instructional Deans and Chairs will gain

1. skills to apply useful frameworks to their practice (ex. Using the Transparency Framework to set agendas for meetings & Step Back Consulting)

2. communication skills through sharing and learning from specific scenarios shared by others in "the field"

3. support and connection (and provide it, as well) to one another.

Criteria for Success
Attendees will provide feedback regarding the first CoP gathering and the feedback will be shared with the group as well as VPIs in the system. Attendees will spread the CoP through word of mouth and active participation as a member. Attendees will feel a greater sense of job satisfaction given the support they find from this CoP.
