Dear State Board members, chancellors, and presidents,

Across the Washington community and technical college (CTC) system, spring 2024 enrollment increased 7 percent compared with spring 2023. Colleges saw enrollment of 125,455 full-time equivalent students (FTES) in spring 2024, including 87,006 state-funded FTES, up 7 percent; 36,970 contract-funded FTES, up 8 percent; and 1,480 student-funded FTES, down 11 percent.

The CTC system ended academic year 2023-24 up 8 percent compared with the prior academic year, with 143,972 FTES. Annualized state-funded FTES rose 7 percent year over year, totaling 100,974 FTES. Contract-funded enrollment was up 11 percent, tallying 40,950 FTES, while student-funded enrollment increased 6 percent to 2,048 FTES.

Spring quarter enrollments increased for:

  *   Applied baccalaureate: up 7 percent (+276 FTES);
  *   Basic Education for Adults: up 7 percent (+946 FTES);
  *   Basic Food, Employment and Training: up 22 percent (+620 FTES);
  *   eLearning: up 7 percent (+5,544 FTES);
  *   I-BEST: up 27 percent (+637 FTES);
  *   International: up 7 percent (+376 FTES);
  *   International Contract: up 10 percent (+415 FTES);
  *   Running Start: up 18 percent (+3,501 FTES);
  *   WorkFirst: up 6 percent (+74 FTES); and
  *   Worker Retraining: up 22 percent (+872 FTES).

Spring enrollments declined for:

  *   Apprenticeships: down 4 percent (-123 FTES); and
  *   Corrections: down 9 percent (-189 FTES).
