Subject: Student Services Director Announcement

Dear SBCTC Colleagues,

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Lauren Hibbs to the Education Division as the new Student Services Director! On December 1, Dr. Hibbs will join the State Board and work with Dr. Joe Holliday for the month of December before his retirement in January.

Dr. Hibbs joins us most recently from Central Washington University, where she served for five years as the Executive Director for Extended Learning, which included oversight of CWU’s 8 regional centers located throughout the state. Six of those centers are co-located with a community college, where Dr. Hibbs has established ties and a history of collaboration to our work and our system. Before her leadership service at CWU, Dr. Hibbs served as the Director of Partnerships and Professional Development at Pacific Lutheran University, and as at the Director of Field Placements, Certifications, Advising, and Assessment at the University of Washington Tacoma.

Dr. Hibbs holds a bachelor degree in Psychology, a masters in Student Development and Administration, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Washington Tacoma. Her dissertation focused on leadership development within Washington State colleges.

Dr. Hibbs is highly engaged in higher education and workforce initiatives, especially as it relates to serving underrepresented populations. Dr. Hibbs most recently joined the non-profit Washington Employers for Racial Equity, to develop a 12-week leadership program for Black, Indigenous, and people of color to advance in their careers.

In joining the system, Lauren shares, “Washington community colleges are among the top student-focused institutions in the country. We see evidence of this through the development and implementation of key initiatives and programs; through collaborative statewide agreements, commissions and councils; through the implementation of over 100 regionally based BAS programs; and through their commitment to racial, social, and economic justice. I am honored to serve the institutions who are making a significant impact within our communities, and ultimately our students.”

In her spare time, Dr. Hibbs enjoys spending time with her daughters, reading, traveling, and attending sporting events.

Congratulations, Dr. Hibbs! We are thrilled to have your leadership at the State Board!

Fondly,

Carli
