Subject: Guided Pathways Work Plan 2022-23

Joe,

Happy New Year! Would you please forward the email below to the members of WSSSC.

Thank you,
Laura

Good evening members of WSSSC,

I hope you have all had a restorative break and are excited about the new quarter. I am circling back after our conversation during your December meeting.

I want to let you know that the 2022-2023 work plans have been distributed as accessible Word documents to college representatives to Instruction Commission. As I mentioned to them, I continue to be impressed that even though the last two years have been extremely difficult in unprecedented ways for all of our colleges, you have demonstrated incredible commitment towards the Guided Pathway’s vision of “A system that advances racial, social, and economic justice by achieving equitable student aspiration, access, economic progress, and educational and career attainment”. Thank you for your focus and determination to holistically serve the students on our campuses.

The questions in this year’s work plan did not undergo any major changes. However, after listening to feedback from some of you and other stakeholders around the state we made technical changes that we hope will make the work plan a more useful tool for your college efforts to dismantle inequitable policies and practices and increase student success. We hope you are able to build on and continue the good work of your 2021-2022 work plan.

I want to reiterate that the document’s primary purpose is to be a place for reflection and planning. It is an opportunity to consider the progress that you are making and think about ways in which you could continue to deepen your work. In addition to responding to questions describing your current progress and ongoing efforts, you are asked to make concrete plans for between 2 and 4 practices for the 2022-2023 academic year to support your development of flexible, interconnected, achievable goals. As you work to complete the plan, we hope that the questions will launch conversations on your campus about what you are doing well and want to celebrate and build on and things you could imagine doing differently.

Although colleges do need to submit a completed work plan by April 1st as a condition of receiving their college’s Guided Pathways allocation, the amount of the allocation is NOT tied to the details of your responses. The work plan is meant to contribute in a formative spirit to the evolution of your work and encourage systemic collaboration. We are looking forward to working with you as you complete your plans and to seeing your responses as we plan for the learning agenda for next year and work to build connections between colleges based on their priorities.

If you or anyone on your campus would like to hear more about the work plan, the Student Success Center will be offering a short webinar via ZOOM ( https://us02web.zoom.us/j/82727624851 ) to provide an overview of the 2022-23 work plan including its intended purpose, structure, and technical details about submission. The webinar will be offered twice (Jan 10 @ 3:30 and Jan 20 @ 3:00) to accommodate schedule conflicts, but the content will be the same.

Questions arising during the webinar will be collected in a FAQ document and a recording will be available after the second webinar.

A PDF version of the work plan can be found HERE<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pOaviTZvD4wAPvlvD8hQ3w3si8GuNx9y/view?usp=sharing>.

Thank you for all you have done and continue to do in service of social justice that impacts the lives of our students, colleges, and communities.

Best,

Laura
