Subject: Governor Inslee's Equity Budget Proposal

This message is being sent to State Board Members and College Presidents/Chancellors.

Good Afternoon,

Each day of this week Governor Inslee is highlighting elements of his policy priorities as reflected in his 2021-23 budget proposals.  Today he shared information on his equity agenda and the resulting budget proposals. Over the next few days, we anticipate announcements on budget proposals addressing economic recovery, early childhood education and the environment.  It's our understanding that the general operating and capital budget proposals will be shared Thursday afternoon.

Fortunately, our system's role in promoting equal access to education, training and the resulting employment opportunities was recognized. The Governor is proposing $23.3 million (from the Workforce Education Investment Account) to advance equitable outcomes for CTC students. This funding provides for collaborative reviews of the curriculum and removes equity barriers to student success. This money will also fund technology grants to convert technical and laboratory-based instruction to an interactive online format - allowing more students  to learn remotely and increase access for working adults and student parents. This proposal is consistent with our System's "Advance Equitable Economic Recovery" 2021-23 operating budget request.

At this time, the above information is at about the level of detail we have and is only a partial picture. We'll share information specific to our system as it becomes available throughout this week but you can anticipate our typical summary of the operating and capital budgets to be sent on Thursday evening or Friday morning.
