[Wactclc-primo] Inconsistent Deduping in Primo VE

Lesley,

You're right that hand editing to fix DEDUP (or FRBR) issues is going to be a Sisyphean task, for the most part.

There may be cases where you want to hand-tweak a result.

The easiest way to hand-tweak a dedup is to make sure both records have the same 035 values. Dedup concatenates all the 035s in each record to do the matching, so you need to make sure that both records have the same exact set of 035 values.

There are other ways you could hand edit them, but the 035 is the most straightforward.

One cool thing in Primo VE is the Dedup and FRBR Test Utility (Configuration / Discovery / Other / Dedup and FRBR Test Utility).

With this utility, you can compare two records in Alma to see if they will match up, and on which fields they match.

So, you could compare your two like water for chocolate records: 991984374502818, 991505895402818

Or the two Utne reader records: 991973327202818, 99820765402818

Utne reader matches on LCCN + brief title (2002236190~utne)

Chocolate has no matching dedup keys.

Hi all,

Has anyone come up with a good strategy to make sure their record deduping is consistent in Primo VE? Right now I'm thinking we'd have to do a lot of manual editing of our records as we come across examples, which doesn't seem like an efficient solution!

We've seen this with ebooks/print books, DVDs/streaming media, and print journals/ejournals.

For example:
Utne displays as one record

Scientific American as two

Chicago is one record

Like Water for Chocolate is two

Any tips or tricks for consistency here?
