[Wactclc-primo] PCI and eBook Collections

Here's another ebook problem I had that you might also encounter:

If you activate ProQuest Ebook Central Perpetual Titles (PQ ECPT) because you have purchased permanent ebrary ebooks, then you will get duplicate records of all the ebooks in your other collections where PC ECPT also has a record.

For example, I have the Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine through GVRL, but PC ECPT also has a record of this book in its collection, so I end up with two duplicate records on my results page when I search for it in Primo. Both of the records will point to GVRL for the full text, but one of them will be from Alma and the other will be from PCI. (Screenshot attached)

After going round and round with SalesForce for a month (Case #00413636), I was told that there really isn't a way to de-dup the records. Basically, there's really only two solutions: 1) tolerate the duplicate records; 2) deactivate PC ECPT in PCI. Guess which one I'm gonna do? In this instance, it'll be easier and cleaner to create a local electronic collection for the ebrary ebook titles that I purchased.

Good morning,

I spoke with Doris Munson on my flight home from Schaumburg about activations in Primo Central Index. Many of you may already know this information, but I thought I would share it with you all anyway.


*         We deactivated almost all of the ebook collections in PCI because PCI will act as if we have access to all the ebooks indexed in a collection. This results in patrons getting false messages that they have access to an ebook.
