I've been over misc tutoring for a year and some change now.  I'm not during the work myself but have handed it to a staff member. Most we've been able to redirect to either of out tutoring centers or etutoring. Some are just not reasonable. "Help me understand the directions." That one we actually referred to our Accommodation and Accessibility Services Coordinator.

One we are currently working on is someone who has asked for tutoring related to the EDU classes. We have nothing for that and no recommendations from faculty in that area so we're a bit stumped.

This isn't quite like your situation, but what we've discussed doing in the absence of sufficient tutoring staff is hiring a single tutoring receptionist/navigator type roll.  The person wouldn't necessarily provide one-on-one tutoring directly, but would instead help connect students to etutoring or other services.  If you found an additional tutoring provider that provided coverage on topics that Etutoring doesn't (I was just contacted by a vendor trying to sell tutoring services; I can look them up if you like) or other collection of resources like Khan Academy, it's at least maybe manageable to train someone in how to get a student started with a support like that whereas staffing qualified tutors for a broad range of roles is extremely challenging. Hi All,


Sorry to be spamming LLC & ELC but I'm at a loss and I'm sure somebody will have an answer or know where to point me.

One of the hats I've inherited was "misc. tutoring."  That is any tutoring requests outside what can be covered by our tutors in the Writing Center, STEM Center, or via eTutoring.

What we are struggling with is there is no point in hiring tutors that MAY be needed in a variety of areas in advance.  At the same time now that we are using CTCLink we can't hire anyone quickly as they can't start until the 1st or 16th.


Curious if anyone knows how tutoring like this is handled on their campus.
