[LIBRARYDIR] BAS Librarians?

Hello Jackie!

Bellevue College has a dedicated BAS/Baccalaureate Librarian. We have 12 baccalaureate degrees, so it was more than necessary to have a dedicated librarian to liaise with and support these programs. I was previously at LWTech and was hired in 2008 as part of funding to start the Applied Design bachelors there. If you can get a seat at the table when baccalaureate programs are getting started I highly recommend adding a BAS librarian, as these are upper level programs that require unique supports and resources. Our BAS Librarian here at BC helped advocate for NWCCU recommendation to better support our BAS programs and we now have a separate budget allocated for that. It is important to remind the decision makers that personnel and research resources need to be considered when putting together a BAS program, as the needs of these programs will far outweigh existing staff and resources.

Hi all~

I hope you are all doing well! I am meeting with a couple of our deans later this week to discuss resource needs for our BAS programs. One of the resources I am going to suggest is the need for a BAS Liaison Librarian. Have any of you broached this yet?

Admittedly, we are crazily short staffed, and my one librarian does not have any experience with aspects of Business Research, Marketing, Finance, Business Law, etc. so I have taken on all this instruction and support work myself in this area.

Our needs might be unique, but I imagine others of you might also be finding yourself feeling the pinch in both collection and people resources. So, I was hoping that there was some peer evidence that I could borrow from the LLC brain trust. 😊

Thanks for your thoughts!
Jackie

Hope, as an ontological need, demands an anchoring in practice.
We need critical hope the way a fish needs unpolluted water.
