Whatcom's policy and practice is very similar to Skagit's. We refer to a physical browse collection and check redundant physical-digital collections prior to renewing.
(Interestingly our print newspapers remain very popular.)

Skagit's Collection Development Policy does not have language about periodicals explicitly other than short runs may be eliminated.  Our practice is that when we get our renewal notice(s), we check our databases for duplications, look at how far back the run extends, and check whether there are any embargoes.  We also check circulation records.  Price jumps are also a factor.  If a title looks like a potential cut, then we reach out to the departments and ask how they use the title in print.  We have drastically reduced the number of print titles over the years (like everyone else).  Our students prefer accessing the periodicals through the databases.  We did a poll of the nursing students a few years ago and they indicated that they prefer online resources because their time is so limited.

Hello all,
I am curious how you curate your Magazine/Journal collections and what you base your decisions on for selecting or deselecting. There hasn't been a real firm guideline here at RTC and, although we do circulate our magazines, they aren't a real hot item.
Do you have a policy or guideline that you could share that shows how you manage your magazine selections?
Anything would help
