<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#1F497D">Skagit’s Collection Development Policy does not have language about periodicals explicitly other than short runs may be eliminated. Our practice is that when we get our renewal notice(s), we check our databases
for duplications, look at how far back the run extends, and check whether there are any embargoes. We also check circulation records. Price jumps are also a factor. If a title looks like a potential cut, then we reach out to the departments and ask how
they use the title in print. We have drastically reduced the number of print titles over the years (like everyone else). Our students prefer accessing the periodicals through the databases. We did a poll of the nursing students a few years ago and they
indicated that they prefer online resources because their time is so limited. <o:p>
