Dear Jennifer: Let me know if your campus ever wants to talk to Highline IT staff about configuring Pharos for community users. We’ve had it setup ever since we started Pharos at Highline and I’m sure they’d be happy to share what they know.

Like Whatcom, Edmonds has a limited number of computers that community users can use and they are not able to print from these machines. We use Pharos for student printing, but our IT department has not been able to find a way to provide access to community users without changing the way the system is currently configured for students.

Erica,

Whatcom CC has four community use computers in the library and they only have access to the WWW and library resources, with no printing capacity -- read only (if you will).

Nor do we have any protocols to set up any kind of generic account.

Thanks
Howard

Hello all,

If you have community using your computers, how do you provide printing? We have been selling printer points in the Library but we won’t be able to keep our cash register/cash fund after this quarter so we are trying to come up with alternatives. We can send them to the cashier, but they are not open the same hours as the Library so this will mainly impact those coming in during evening and weekend hours. We have a generic printing account so we may be able to use this, but would need to set up some parameters so people don’t take advantage of this. If you have protocols for a generic account, those would be useful also.

Thanks,
Erica
