[LIBRARYDIR] Community printing - resending with new subject line

BC uses papercut. We used to make money off printing when it was cash basis but with papercut, all the money goes to printing services.
The sad part #1 is we still do all the support for the printer problems but get none of the money.
Previously, it was approximately $6600 per year.
Sad thing #2 is we have only 1 release unit, so when we are busy, this causes a line at the release terminal.

Highline uses the Pharos system to manage printing. Community users can use the Pharos kiosk (cash only) to create a “Guest user” account. So they put the cash in and get a receipt that gives them a unique username and password to print until the money runs out on that receipt.

(Students use the same kiosk to add money to their printing account. They log in with their myHighline username and password (used to print, use the copy machines, and log in to Canvas).

Community users pick up printouts at the circulation desk and pay cash/debit/etc. Why can’t you keep a cash box anymore?

Subject: Computing printing

Hello all,

If you have community using your computers, how do you provide printing? We have been selling printer points in the Library but we won’t be able to keep our cash register/cash fund after this quarter so we are trying to come up with alternatives. We can send them to the cashier, but they are not open the same hours as the Library so this will mainly impact those coming in during evening and weekend hours. We have a generic printing account so we may be able to use this, but would need to set up some parameters so people don’t take advantage of this. If you have protocols for a generic account, those would be useful also.

Thanks,
Erica
