We used to have a FT dedicated tech but we lost the position 6-7 years ago.
We've used paraprofessional reference specialists to support tech for over 2 years... they're all part-time
and work during our busiest hours, opening to 2:15pm. They also handle directional questions,
basic reference & citation questions. We also have 2 PT staff at our circ desk who are adept
at handling tech questions. For in-depth tech questions, we refer students to our eLearning dept. -- Sharon

Subject: [LIBRARYDIR] Student Technology Support Desks in your library

Does your college have a student technology support desk in the library? I know Skagit Valley College has one staffed by IT just outside the library and Everett Community College has one inside the library.

The BTC Library has the Student Technology Support Desk. This year we had a grant to hire Computer Networking students two hours/day to help library staff with technology questions. We are interested in seeing other set-ups and talking with the staff who run the desks.

If you have such a tech support desk and would have someone available to talk with us between June 25-June 30th would email me off the list?

Thank you.
