I thought FACTC was supposed to remain non-political. This is clearly a leftist, non-liberal proposal, based on undefined notions of racial purity and I do not support it.

The Black Support and Solidarity (BSS) Data Team, with the support of the DEI in WA CTCs Collective, requests that acute attention be given to the needs, wants, and demands of Black and other historically underserved student communities as colleges add faculty as part of Senate Bill 5194<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flawfilesext.leg.wa.gov%2Fbiennium%2F2021-22%2FPdf%2FBill%2520Reports%2FSenate%2F5194-S2.E%2520SBR%2520FBR%252021.pdf%3Fq%3D20211201152643&data=04%7C01%7Cjason.nix%40sfcc.spokane.edu%7C4c003359e62b4d74600108d9daa55f68%7C4dedfefa6bd04442a06c98aed0b4b8da%7C1%7C1%7C637781226068326164%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=VCKnBr%2FH%2FKc2aTGJaGEdgTkSehtr7iN%2FCi1F7G3thmY%3D&reserved=0>.

This bill requires that colleges increase the number of tenure track faculty with the expectation of the increased successful completion of college degrees or certificates among all students but with a firm emphasis on supporting first generation and other historically underserved students.

BSS offers these tools to help our institutions create processes to recruit and retain a diversified, inclusive, equity driven faculty that are representative of our students:

  * If your campus has “asks” from Black student groups or college caucuses, we encourage you to consider these as part of the criteria for how positions may be allocated at your institution.
