[DEOC] Issues with race/ethnicity in ctcLink conversion

Hi, I had not heard of this - it did not happen during our conversion. I asked my VP IT about it and he had not heard about this issue either.

I would suggest:

  1. asking lots of questions about how that happened including how that default was selected.

  1. I would also suggest working with HR, IT, and IR to determine how they will support correcting and updating data - there are pretty major implications for having incorrect demographic data and that will have to get corrected.
  2. Being transparent with the community about what happened and what the college is doing to correct it.
  3. Offer instructions and support with updating information for the community.

This is very unfortunate!

In support,
Consuelo

Hello DEO family,

WWCC just went through ctcLink conversion a couple of weeks ago, and we're now learning that during the conversion students/employees without race/ethnicity info might have been defaulted to White in PeopleSoft. I'm curious to hear if this is something that others have experienced, and what approach you took to reduce harm in this experience of individuals being othered and opportunities for support.

Thanks,

Margarita
