Kirsti,
Thank you for bringing this up. I have noticed strange DeDup behavior on several types of records, but have not had time to do a deep dive into it.

Looking forward to this conversation!

Subject: [Wactclc-alma] Citation record duplication & linking problem

We recently ran into a problem with an article in a JSTOR Open Access journal. The article seems to have duplicate CDI citation records. We're also having problems linking to the article from the different citation records in Primo.

Could we troubleshoot this on the Thursday (or even Tuesday) call?

Article info:
Title: The Political Economy of Hate Industry: Islamophobia in the Western Public Sphere
Author: Abubakar A. Bukar
Journal: Islamophobia Studies Journal, Vol. 5, No. 2 (Fall 2020), pp. 152-174

Article is available as full-text via Gale In Context: Global Issues, and Gale Academic OneFile (part of the statewide Gale package brokered by the Washington State Library), as well as (for free) from the JSTOR platform.

If you do an Everything search in Primo, you'll see 2 duplicate citation records:

The citation record Ex Libris got from Gale has this information-- check out the publication date and the pagination:

Title: The Political Economy of Hate Industry: Islamophobia in the Western Public Sphere
Author: Bukar, Abubakar A
Is Part Of: Islamophobia studies journal, 2020-09-22, Vol.5 (2), p.153
DOI: 10.13169/islastudj.5.2.0152

The citation record Ex Libris got from JSTOR has this information-- check out the publication date and the pagination:

Title: The Political Economy of Hate Industry: Islamophobia in the Western Public Sphere
Author: Abubakar A. Bukar
Is Part Of: Islamophobia studies journal, 2020-10-01, Vol.5 (2), p.152-174
DOI: none

I'm pretty sure having different publication dates and pagination is what's keeping the 2 citation records from being merged into a single record in the CDI Knowledgebase. I'll submit a ticket to Ex Libris support about this.

With each citation record, we're seeing different linking behavior in Primo. For comparison, we checked how the citations were behaving in Everett's Primo and Spokane's Primo.

Spokane and Seattle get a "Check for available services" message for the citation record that Ex Libris got from Gale. Everett doesn't have this problem.

Spokane and Everett have "Full text availability" links to the article from the Gale In Context: Global Issues, and Gale Academic OneFile electronic collections.

Seattle has the Gale In Context: Global Issues, and Gale Academic OneFile electronic collections activated in Alma (since September 2021) and activated for CDI search in Alma (since October 2021), but for "Full-text availability" the only thing we see is "Access content in JSTOR." FWIW, we have the Community Zone electronic collection JSTOR Journal Open Access activated in Alma.

I'd like to find out what the different settings are in our Alma environments that are giving us different linking behavior in Primo.

It will be ok!
