[Wactclc-alma] {Disarmed} RE: Notice when "Lost" Item is Returned

George or Dale, or Wade or Shellie (☺),

Do you know off the top of your head how to set up a red notice when lost books are returned? We do get a red notice if an overdue fine was added when an item is returned, but not lost.

That analytics report sounds like a great idea, too!

Comments and Questions.

At Edmonds Alma is set to provide a "red" notice on the screen when a lost book is returned. The notice lets us know that the book is going back to "available" and the replacement cost has been forgiven. We also initially coded a processing fee for lost books, but discovered that the processing fee was not being forgiven so we did away with processing fees, which Alma calls "Lost Item Fine". The Alma part is working mostly; however, we are not receiving anything like to Voyager Exceptions report which would alert us to students who had returned lost items so we could check to see if they were blocked at registration and then remove the block.

We are working on developing an Analytics report that we can run regularly that will tell us who returned "lost" books during the previous day or week so we can take care of the registration blocks.

George will add more to this is I have forgotten something.

Hi all,

Has anyone else noticed that when a “Lost” item is returned in Alma (Manage Item Returns page) there is no notice on the screen?

We’re having an issue where a student returned a “Lost” book, but didn’t inform the staff. Unfortunately, the student ended up in collections and has now notified our staff of the error.

So, my first question is, is there some notice that was missed on the screen when the “Lost” item was scanned in? If not, how are you all combatting this issue? Running a regular report and spot-checking?

We wanted to reach out and see what other colleges were doing about this.

Thanks!
