Hi y'all,

At our LLC meeting earlier in the month, we discussed this item: IPEDS has announced "the planned elimination of the Academic Libraries (AL) survey<https://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/survey-components/1> beginning in the 2025-26 administration". The public comment period<https://www.regulations.gov/document/ED-2024-SCC-0040-0001/comment> is currently open until May 3, 2024.

Other than the conversation at LLC, I haven't seen or heard anything else. I am curious if anyone else has additional information or understanding.

I was surprised that ACRL doesn't have any information on their Academic Trends pages: 2023 Survey Information - ACRL Academic Library Trends and Statistics - LibGuides at ACRL<https://acrl.libguides.com/stats/surveyhelp>

One of my librarians did some digging and all she could find was this reddit posting: https://www.reddit.com/r/librarians/comments/1bcxq86/academic_libraries_that_use_ipeds_theyre/?rdt=45317 . The 440 comments seem to reflect our conversation at LLC: IPEDS data is free to access, ACRL charges for a report, having access to data trends from across the spectrum of colleges is useful, it would be an oversight to remove libraries, and this just seems to be confusing and difficult to find information. Here is a link to those comments: https://www.regulations.gov/document/ED-2024-SCC-0040-0001

I'd love to hear from anyone who has better understanding or a stronger opinion.
Thanks,
Christie
