Dear WACTC Presidents,

We cordially invite you to the 1st Annual WA State HSI Symposium for Emerging and Designated Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) in Washington State. This event will engage higher education professionals who are in the process of becoming, as well as those who are HSI's to:

  *   Understand the Latine student landscape in Washington State, including enrollment trends, transfer and completion rates, financial aid completion, retention, and more
  *   Develop a community of practice to engage collectively in needs assessments and professional development opportunities
  *   Create a structure for the state to support the exchange of evidence-based and intentional practices, scholarship, and emerging literature for serving Latine/x students
  *   Engage by using servingness frameworks and strategies to increase student success outcomes at your institution



As of 2025, Washington State has 18 emerging HSI's community colleges and universities. Currently, there are eight designated HSI's across the state, seven of those in Eastern Washington and one in Western Washington, Skagit Valley College.


The event will take place on the following days:

Welcome Reception and Poster Session

Date: Tuesday, May 13th 2025

Time: 6pm-7:30pm

Where: Skagit Valley College, McIntyre Hall Performing Arts and Center

Full day professional development

Date: Wednesday, May 14th 2025

Time:  9:00am-4:00 pm

Where: Skagit Valley College, McIntyre Hall Performing Arts and Center

Costs: We encourage institutions to bring a team of five institutional leaders at a minimum.

  *   Institutional team of five costs: $500.00
  *   Additional participants: $135.00
