Subject: HEADS UP: Tuition increase for next fall approved

Good afternoon PIOs,

The State Board just approved a 2.5% tuition increase for the 2020-21 school year. If you receive media calls, you can explain that the State Board sets a uniform tuition for all community and technical colleges, and discuss how your college is stepping up to help students  - for example, by providing emergency funds through foundations, reducing textbook costs through open-educational resources, reducing fees (if it applies...some colleges have done this). You can also say that you are grateful that the state Legislature created the Washington College Grant, which makes financial aid available to more families and will eliminate waitlists for financial aid.  You can discuss how you are trying to get every student to complete a financial aid application this year.

The 2.5% percent increase will translate into about $103 more per year for a full-time resident student. Tuition will go from $4,127 to $4,230.
