Subject: Request for feedback!

July 21, 2020

Dear Colleagues:

I hope this finds you well! This week and next week State Board staff and I will join K-12 and higher education partners to work to develop collaborative guidelines and considerations for districts and higher education partners specifically related to dual credit and postsecondary transition impacts on K12 students for the 2020-21 AY. Critical to this work will be to ensure these guidelines focus on serving students furthest from educational justice while centering anti-racist practices. The guidance is intended to help districts as they plan for the fall and so we have to move quickly, with the target date for final guidance being early August. Yikes, I know!

Executive leadership, including Jan, as well as community based organization partners, state agencies, and professional associations met last Friday during the regularly scheduled Coordinating Pathways to Higher Education meeting. The participants in the meeting on Friday identified the following topics as guidance for the workgroup to begin with:
- Placement testing for dual credit students
- Advising and supports for dual credit students
- Grades and Transcripts for dual credit students and for all high school students in the 2020-21 school year.

Additional topics were discussed and were identified as well underway in other areas. The executive leadership group agreed this work should be referenced or acknowledged in the guidelines, but additional guidance should not be developed for these topics:
- Building a college-going culture through outreach, recruitment, info nights, other events
- FAFSA/WASFA completion work.

Additionally, there were two topics identified but tabled for the moment. Further discussion will occur on July 31st at the next standing meeting of executive leaders to determine if elements should be included in the guidance:
- Access to technology for dual credit students
- Accelerating readiness for the classes of 2020 and 2021.

What I need from you! :)
In order to help with this guidance development on placement testing, advising/supports, and grades and transcripts, I would appreciate the following feedback by the middle of next week on:

· Current initial policies/suggestions/practices related to the proposed topics implemented to respond to the pandemic for fall 2020. Note these may be carry overs from spring/summer 2020.

· Concerns/critical points/understandings we need to be sure are relayed in these conversations

Thank you for any insight you can share! Please send your thoughts, feedback, guidance to Jamie Traugott, Student Services Policy Associate, jtraugott at sbctc.edu<mailto:jtraugott at sbctc.edu>. She will collect your feedback in preparation for the upcoming meetings! Thanks, again!

Fondly,
Carli
