Hello, Colleagues:
I hope this email finds you healthy and well as you've navigated huge shifts to your daily lives, yet continue to work exhaustingly on behalf of our students.
As you may know, our colleges are in desperate need of financial assistance to serve our students such as those available through the Opportunity Grant program. To meet this unexpected need, we respectfully request the return of any remaining funds in the Opportunity Grant program. Any additional funds made available to your program can be used to meet the increase in eligible student demand, as well as a match for our Basic Food Employment and Training (BFET) program. In addition, we know some of you have exhausted or are about to exhaust your FY20 allocation.
With that in mind, we are ready for de-obligation and re-allocation requests. Please remember that it is important to spend OG funds, but it is also important to spend OG funds wisely and with intention. Retention/completion should always be in forefront.
Reminder:
* Opportunity Grant funds must be used by June 30, this is not a carry-forward allocation. Funds not spent are returned to the state.
* Should you receive funds, all must be used for the student aid portion, with nothing going to the wrap-around portion.
* Each college must be on target to meet or exceed its approved 2019-20 Opportunity Grant student FTE target.
* Anticipated available funds are expected to be minimal so each college's request is limited to a 1 FTES maximum.
* Notify me directly should you wish to request additional Opportunity Grant funds (attached form) by April 10 (electronic, please).
* Be realistic, if you will not be able use all of your funds, return those so we can distribute to other colleges/students in need.
I understand that a few colleges have had recent changes in their Opportunity Grant coordinators. Therefore, this message is being sent to the general Opportunity Grant and Financial Aid listservs to ensure that we have communicated with each college.
