[Wsssc] FW: Student Conduct / WA ASCA group?

WSSSC Colleagues: see below. We discussed this briefly at last week's meeting. I offered to send this out for general discussion among the group. Three options to weigh in on:

1. AG's office "takes a year off"

2. Repeat a topic from 2017 or 2018 in light of turnover in key positions

3. Identify a new/emerging training need (e.g., Title IX focus)

What say you?

                             [Joe]

After last year's academy, I assumed we had saturated the market and should perhaps take a year off. I know that there is turnover in conduct positions at the colleges but we don't have a sense of the turnover rate and how much interest there is in repeating one of the academies we did in the last two years. To recap, in 2017 we offered student conduct officer training that focused generally on conduct codes, due process and the Administrative Procedures Act. In 2018, the academy was presiding officer training, which was focused more hands-on, how to run an administrative hearing. We would have to rely on you to tell us what you think there is a thirst for. We're happy to repeat one of the academies provided there is enough interest to make it worth pulling in the AAGs and resources. It's also possible that there is an interest in something covering similar ground but a little more Title IX focused. Please think about what kind of interest is out there and let us know what you think.

Good morning Dave and Bruce, see below. This reminds me to ask if you are thinking of holding any student conduct academies for our colleges again this summer. I am copying WSSSC President-elect Jessica Gilmore-English here so she is in the loop. Thanks.

Greetings all, it would be helpful to let us at the state board know if your department is entertaining attending the meeting so we can pass the word out to our VPSS's as to encourage CUSP attendance.

Thanks,

Edward

Subject: [CUSP] Student Conduct / WA ASCA group?

Hello CUSP! I am also the Student Conduct Officer at BTC, with my new role in Student Life.

I attended the Washington Spring Conduct Drive-In at Central Washington University recently. I was only one of three CTCs represented at the meeting, but there were quite a bit of four years (public & private) represented. There was great information shared about current issues with students, alcohol & drug violations, processes, and residential student concerns. There are two Drive-Ins a year, one in the fall and one in the spring.

I have reached out to Julie Draper Davis from Pierce who organized the Drive-In. She suggested I get a list of CUSP folks who would like to be included in the WA ASCA (Washington chapter of Association of Student Conduct Administration) emails and announcements about upcoming training.

ACTION: send me your Student Conduct Officer name & contact information

I will compile and send to Julie so she can add them to her listing, so we all get the information and know about these trainings!

Thank you so much! - Chris
