Colleagues: The Washington College Access Network has created a “resource map” of colleges in the state. Dale Yee of WCAN has taken our summary of programs and services addressing food and housing insecurity and populated the map with them. I suggested that you might want to review the content for your college for accuracy. If after you review your college information you have any suggested edits, let me know and I’ll pass them on to Dale at WCAN. No rush, maybe in the next couple of weeks when you get a few “free” minutes?

One more email from me (Happy Friday!). I just implemented the changes to the website that we discussed a couple of weeks ago.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to look over the resources. I know that it’s a work in progress :)
Yes, there was a need to standardize to make the searchable filters easy to identify. I also started with what I was using for the housing and food instability project. I have had another request from WSAC to add additional filters for SNG schools and other funding resources as well…so this may be an expanding filter system.
Do you think you might be able to hop on a phone call to chat about larger categories that we might be able to pull from the document and add to the map? I find that sometimes having someone steeped in the what is available at a high level provides a nice thought partnership as we think about expanding filter categories – if that makes sense!

Hello Dale, Happy New Year! I finally found some time to look over the resource map you sent me the link to. It looks great, however I noticed the info listed for our colleges was limited pretty much to Food Pantries. When comparing it to the summary document (latest version attached here), I noticed that there are several programs and services that could be highlighted. For example, Bates Technical College has a free sack lunch program on all three of their campuses, and Shoreline Community College operates a Benefits Hub that provides much more than a food pantry. Many of our colleges offer emergency funding students in need, but I didn’t see that listed anywhere. These are just a few examples to illustrate my point.
I realize it is possible you have needed to standardize the services that are listed on your resource page, collapsing a variety of food-related services into one category you call Food Pantry, so maybe that is the reason. Let me know if I can help with anything.
