This message has been sent to State Board members, chancellors, presidents.

The following is a summary of system enrollment trends based on summer quarter and preliminary Fall quarter enrollments for the 2017-18 school year.

* Based on Preliminary Fall Enrollments, the system is projected to end the year with 129,180 state supported full-time equivalent students (FTES) for adults and 22,165 FTES for Running Start for a total of 151,345 state supported FTES. This would represented a drop in state supported FTES for adults (down 1 percent from 130,790 FTES in 2016-17) and an increase in state supported FTES for Running Start (up 10 percent from 20,207 FTES in 2016-17) for a slight increase in total state supported FTES (up from 150,997 FTES in 2016-17).

* Summer Quarter Enrollments generally vary more than other quarters from overall patterns in enrollment, but can still give some early signs of what might be expected for the year. Note that Running Start is not included on this list because Running Start does not generally have summer quarter enrollments:

o Total FTE is down by 2 percent with similar drops in State FTE (down 2 percent), contract FTE (down 3 percent), and self-support FTE (down 3 percent).

o Apprenticeship enrollment continues to rise (up 11 percent)

o Applied Baccalaureate enrollment continues to rise (up 43 percent)

o eLearning continues to rise (up 7 percent)

o I-BEST enrollment continues to rise (up 12 percent)

o Basic Education for Adult enrollment continues to stay fairly consistent (down 1 percent)

o Department of Corrections enrollment continues to stay fairly consistent (down 2 percent)

o BFET enrollment continues to decline (down 11 percent)

o Total International enrollment is down (down 4 percent)

o International Contract enrollment is up (up 7 percent)

o WorkFirst enrollment continues to decline (down 7 percent)

o Worker Retraining enrollment is down after rising for the last couple of years (down 8 percent)
