[Wctcca] Counseling during "alternative format" classes

Hello Jennifer,

I was unable to locate information with the exception of telehealth for Medicaid and other insurance clients. Granted I didn't have much time to do a lot of searching since my first student was scheduled at 8:30. I went to HCA website and the manual is 361 pages long and mainly about Medicaid insurances and billing, etc. Since this was an emergent need and not a long term practice, I am relying on the communication that if the student was comfortable with the technology, we could still meet. Other than that, it would have been April before we could schedule face to face.

I will check out ACA and NBCC to see what their guidelines are. The Center for Telehealth Policy references Telehealth and Telemedicine. In the meantime, if someone else knows something I am unaware of, please chime in. This is probably something we need to be familiar/comfortable with since we are in "pandemic" status.

Diane,
Thank you so very much for sharing. Just curious, did you draw up a document for tele-mental health consent to go alongside your disclosure form? I'm just thinking out loud and wondering if it is needed?
Thanks,

Good afternoon,

As you may be aware, Bates Technical College was closed today due to COVID 19 concerns and the need to deep clean. When the message came through at 4:30 am, my immediate concern was for the students that were scheduled this morning. Permission was obtained to provide telehealth services and the two appointments were successfully maintained. The online platform that was used is specifically designed for Telemedicine so meets all compliance requirements and provides the Business Associate Agreement. While I heard about a few years ago, today was the first day I tried it and it was very smooth. Nothing to download, it's all online and easy to navigate. Both students were able to log in with no difficulty and it works with mobile phones as well as computers. Hope this helps.

Dear esteemed colleagues,

As all of our campuses are selecting their methods of responding to the fears about the Covid-19 virus, we are finding ourselves wondering about options to provide counseling to students who are now taking almost all online classes to maintain distance from each other. We have not previously offered telementalhealth, but are now considering it. Is this something you offer and if so, which HIPPA compliant platform are you utilizing? If not, what are your reasons for passing on this option? Are there other alternatives to your services that you are offering?

My favorite thing about this organization is our ability to support each other in managing issues that are unique to counseling in our CTC system. I look forward to benefitting from your shared wisdom and thank you in advance for taking the time to share what you are doing. Stay safe and healthy out there.
