[Wactclc-primo] GVRL linking question

I would turn off direct linking. Then see if Credo turns up in the View It links, and if so, whether those links work.

Depending on the results, I would look at whether your Credo activations are accurate, and that you still subscribe to the content.

If the Credo links don't work, and you have access to the content and expect them to work, I would open a ticket.

Don't forget to provide test credentials so that the support analyst can test the record for themselves.

Wade I think you are right. When I haven't previously visited our Gale site, I go to the weird login screen when I use the Primo link. But if I go to our Gale site directly, then come back and use the Primo link, I am at least taken directly to the book level in Gale. Here is one example.

"Hip Hop" in International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences: https://sbctc-olympic.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/fulldisplay?docid=gvrl_refCX3045301031&context=PC&vid=01STATEWA_OLYMPIC:OLYMPIC&search_scope=MyInst_and_CI&tab=Everything&lang=en

Another strange issue in my testing... When I see the entry for "Hip Hop" from Encyclopedia of Activism and Social Justice, in my results, the title link takes me to the View it page and then the link to Sage takes me to the correct title on Sage Knowledge. But if I select the "Full text available" link instead of the title link (we use direct linking), it takes me to an incorrect title in Credo Reference! The same thing happens with the links for "Hip-Hop/Rap" in Encyclopedia of Gender and Society: The link from the View it page takes me correctly to Sage Knowledge but the direct linking with the "Full text available" link on the results page takes me to Credo Reference and tells me the book is not available at Credo. Should I open a case for this?

If you visit Gale successfully, prior to using the GVRL links, the GVRL article-level links will resolve successfully to the title level.

I believe is because visiting Gale successfully gives you the institution info in the Gale browser cookie, that then allows the Primo GVRL links to work.

(As I noted in a different message, and as updated in the associated SF tickets, ExL is actively investigating the issue with the article-level GVRL links.)

Thanks, Amy. I was hoping to create a Local Electronic Collection myself that would force it to go to the article level. I started the process, but now I’m stuck on what to put in for the parser parameter. I tried to see if I could look at the CZ GVRL collection that you are talking about, but couldn’t figure it out. Ugh! Any advice out there?

Elena, our 58 Gale reference titles are all individually purchased. I find them individually in the CZ but make sure to grab the record from the “Gale Cengage Virtual Reference Library” which makes them all part of a collection by the same name. The linking level for that collection’s service says “Book.” I’m not sure if there’s a way to force it go to article level?

So, I am looking into this, and I thought we had all of our GVRL titles added in our P2E file when we first migrated to Primo. Now, though, I see the individual portfolios for Gale in Alma and Primo, but there is no Gale Virtual Reference Collection anymore, and there does not seem to be article-level access in Primo. Our Gale titles are just a collection of 22 individually purchased titles, so I don’t think I can activate from the Community Zone.

Do I have to go through and manually add the titles into an electronic collection in Alma and then activate it? Should I wait until Ex Libris does whatever they need to do in order to make the article-level linking work?

Thanks,

Elena

Amy,

The linking here at Bellevue is intermittent. I clicked on links from my system and it resolved as expected at the title level. Paula tried the exact same link and got the weird login screen.
So frustrating!

Today my Gale links in Primo are back to taking me to the title level record in GVRL, instead of the weird login screen.

Best course of action in these cases is to open a case.

Just open it as an Alma case (since it has to do with the link resolver) with high priority.

Provide Primo permalinks to a couple example citations that don’t work as expected, and credentials so that the analyst can proceed through your proxy service.

ATTENTION: This email contains links. Please follow best practices before clicking on links Hmm. The Service parser parameters for Gale are set to “url=http://go.galegroup.com” which would seem correct for us. But Primo is sending us to a login screen at “http://galeapps.galegroup.com<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fgaleapps.galegroup.com&data=01%7C01%7Cnlongpre%40bellevuecollege.edu%7Cf42cc1f61fec4e5252a808d6a27cc7ad%7Cf94c251c1347422eb3ea8ac56befd6cb%7C1&sdata=W3Dkndq%2F89PjpFMBQKl92Nukpcs20OKn3mdEsbzyxMY%3D&reserved=0>”

Nicole,

None of our reference entries go to article level, only book level. Credo used to go to article level but now I’m seeing it only goes to the main Credo search screen which is even worse than book level. And we are now seeing the same thing as you with Gale… a login screen! The URL on the login screen is completely different from the URLs we actually use for that database so I’m wondering if we need to edit the Service with a custom link…

This was mentioned in this morning’s meeting, but I noticed that our GVRL titles aren’t linking properly.
If you search by full title, I can find the GVRL titles and the linking works as expected. Article level linking doesn’t work at all, and takes you to a Gale login screen.
Our titles are activated from the CKB.

Am I correct that is no solvency other than putting in a SalesForce ticket with ExLibris?
