[Wactclc-primo] Kanopy

Hi Dale,

I am planning to open a case this afternoon.
I have a case from last March where we asked Ex Libris to set-up Kanopy in the Primo Back Office. This relates to Wade’s question: In the PCI configuration, do you include a customer number, so that Kanopy PCI results would include only those for your institution?
We didn’t include a customer number in that case, but they did ask for our “institution ID" -- the acronym of your library in your Kanopy website. As far as I know, we only have one film in Kanopy that would be different than the standard package and that is a documentary that had no streaming options, so we were able to get copyright permissions to burn the DVD and host it on our Kanopy site.

Best,
Lesley

Lesley and Wade,
Edmonds has had the same problem with Kanopy records from PCI. Before Kanopy added Media Education Foundation we cataloged the Media Education Foundation records and added them to our Catalog via the P to E process. After Kanopy added these records they now show up as "online access" where as the other Kanopy records show up as "full text available". This is one of the reasons we have through about adding our Kanopy records directly, but if Wade's suggestion works that would also be a good fix.
Lesley, have you opened a Sales Force request to do what Wade suggest?

Lesley,

I’m guessing that the difference in the labels results from the Films on Demand collection being cataloged in Alma, while the Kanopy collection is not.

So, different sets of labels would apply.

Does that sound correct?

If so, you could open an SF ticket with a permalink to a Kanopy title, and request that the linking label for PCI links be updated to ‘online access’.

(After Primo VE becomes available this summer, this kind of change we should be able to do ourselves.)

On the other question, sounds like the Kanopy collection is DDA? Interesting question, though I don’t have any good suggestions. Other than having those records suppressed on the Kanopy side.

In the PCI configuration, do you include a customer number, so that Kanopy PCI results would include only those for your institution?

Subject: [Wactclc-primo] Kanopy

Good morning, everyone,

I have a couple of questions about Kanopy and Primo. Both questions are captured in the attached screenshot.

  1. We have Kanopy in Primo via PCI. It seems to be working well, however the link to the resource says “Full text available” instead of “Online access.” I know we did some configuration at the beginning so that online films would say “Online Access” instead of Full text. Films on Demand’s links are correct, but not Kanopy. Has anyone else addressed this?
  2. Speaking of Films on Demand, when reviewing the Kanopy titles triggered for purchase, we noticed several were already included in our collection through Films on Demand. Has anyone considered a way to ensure films were not purchased in Kanopy if they were available in Films on Demand? Perhaps by sharing a Films on Demand title list with the Kanopy rep?

Thanks for your thoughts!
-Lesley
