[LIBRARYDIR] Community Borrowers

We have community borrowers.
Not many come in.
We allow access to college databases on site. CBs can check out books. No limit, but for only 2 weeks.

We don’t get many community users. I think this is mostly due to our location in the city, but community users are welcome.

SFCC has a community user card (free) that can be used to check out books (5 at a time), magazine (5 at a time) and DVDs (2 at a time).

They can ask to be signed on to a computer if there are computers available (there usually are), but they can’t use study rooms.

We don't have many community users, and this year, when we reviewed the policy, we decided not to check out books to community users. I anticipate we will review this policy again next year. Thanks, Claire

We do not allow community member access to our network and therefore they cannot access our electronic content. Hello,

We are looking at our community borrower’s policies and procedures.   I’m asking for input on your feelings about your responsibility to provide services to the community – beyond your college.  We charge a minimal amount (it was $5 and went up to $10 a quarter last week) to get a card.   There are, of course, limitations on what they can check out, only use databases on campus.   We just limited their time in the library to two hours a day.  We’ve had a particular patron who is a bit problematic who was coming in when we opened and begrudgedly leaving at closing.

Also, we are wondering what you do about requiring a physical address – as this would affect homeless individuals.
