We got rid of ours this year. It removed physical obstacles for walking around in our space and it is much friendlier.

The maintenance cost of security gates plus the "feeling" they gave was enough for me to get rid of these at my last two institutions-the loss ratio at both institutions didn't merit the expense.  Most CC's in Oregon had as well if I recall correctly.

I think that their has been published literature on this if that is helpful?

We also used Checkpoint gates.
We are under construction right now for a retrofit and made the decision to just not use security gates going forward! 😬

We tested out dummy gates for a while at our smaller branch and had zero loss.
It's not a decision that works for every library, but the combination of factors made us really examine our loss ratios and we got admin support for the decision.

I'm sure this wasn't super helpful to you, but I couldn't resist chiming in since this decision was made final very recently! 😂

Hello,

I hear that Checkpoint is going out of business and that they are selling out their remaining RF Date Due and De-tuning supplies. Does anyone else use the Checkpoint security gate system? If so, have you identified a work-around or new product?
