Good morning, everyone,
I’m not sure if everyone participated in the recent Ithaka S+R study on “Library Strategy and Collaboration Across the College Ecosystem,” but you might find the study results compelling.
Best,
Greg

Dear Greg,

Earlier this year, Ithaka S+R surveyed library directors at two-year institutions across the US. Today, I'm pleased to announce the publication of our findings from that national study. In Library Strategy and Collaboration Across the College Ecosystem<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2finfo.ithaka.org%2facton%2fct%2f10452%2fs-2b7f-2109%2fBct%2fl-2624%2fl-2624%3a326%2fct2_0%2f1%2flu%3fsid%3dTV2%253AU5Guv0tMC&c=E,1,aRNikLFU9kcTWz0UWglL_a2b7YUz25jnDawKb4dHK8UKm51zckv-9I3mMEK_jux1qeIV8uLpSLJIreerWavIsR8bgvMcWemOlLVdR2NstxJRUVmbD7hr&typo=1>, Melissa Blankstein and I explore how library leaders are navigating the COVID-19 crisis, setting priorities, and supporting their institutions' missions and goals.

What did we learn? Respondents feel the library is well positioned to play a key role in supporting student success—helping to increase student learning, develop a sense of community, provide technological resources, and act as a hub for many other services. And yet our research initiative also makes clear that the role of the library is often misunderstood and undervalued.

To counter this, library leaders must continue to communicate with other institutional leaders about their multifaceted roles. As libraries look to be recognized for their contributions to key institutional outcomes like retention, graduation, and enrollment, articulating the role of the library and the direct contributions it makes will be especially important.

And, as community college definitions of success evolve, and libraries continue to move from relatively traditional roles to supporting a more holistic set of student outcomes, administrators outside of the library may need to rethink their own assumptions about the role of the library as well. Today's students face increasingly complex challenges inside and outside of the classroom, and it will take all leaders across the college working together, with a deep understanding of each other's contributions, to achieve the most positive outcomes for their students.

It is our hope that this report can play a small part in facilitating these conversations and collaborations. We look forward to hosting several convenings in the coming year, to move from research to solution-building with members of the community. In the meantime, I encourage you to to share your comments and questions through email<mailto:christine.wolff-eisenberg at ithaka.org> or via our blog<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2finfo.ithaka.org%2facton%2fct%2f10452%2fs-2b7f-2109%2fBct%2fl-2624%2fl-2624%3a326%2fct3_0%2f1%2flu%3fsid%3dTV2%253AU5Guv0tMC&c=E,1,Eq7YFOonAI_MDV-Z6pkwxX1093y5DvxsvDWV6rWX5WpRw-f96Ck61bjaxyNW26kcbsl51Z_IjsTWPbLcF0mFw6ty3eZLMUYsCq8o2eaCOoh1qoev_UVtzAf3nYA,&typo=1>.
