[LIBRARYDIR] Tracking students

WWCC does manual hourly counts across our "zones" --computing, group study, quiet study, etc. We also manually record transactions by the type of interaction across several categories. These manual counts are then entered into a spreadsheet and created into charts that we use in our annual report.

Manual, indeed, but it is quite accurate, non-intrusive, and gets the job done for here--thiough of course this might be less manageable for larger libraries, but you could always do sample weeks and/or days throughout the term to get some interesting data.

At Bellevue we are using LibCal to assign students to seats in the library. Every student/patron who comes into the library is greeted and asked if they have a reservation. If they do have a reservation, our staff help check them in. If they do not have a reservation but would like to sit at a table or book a study room, our staff help them with the booking. Anyone browsing the collection, walking around, copying/printing, or connecting with a Ref Librarian are not tracked.

Bellevue is looking more and more at program data and tying this to student success. I don’t know if it would be possible, but I would love to have access to Target X on our campus and have a check in system for the library. It is becoming difficult to show how the library contributes to student success when we have no data on students who come into and use the library.

Yes, I was meeting with our COVID leader person on Tuesday and I was happy and surprised to see 20 students waiting out front to get in. I’m hearing second-hand that it’s especially International students and Running Start students who are super excited to be face to face on campus.

It's a joy to see people in real life.

I hope you are all well.

All the best,

YVC is using Bookings, too.

And it is buggy.

Students reserve a time and we check them in.

I was pleasantly surprised to have 8 (very happy) students in this amazing space on Tuesday.

Glad we’ve reopened.

It’s not really a sign in/out, but we’re using Microsoft Bookings and asking students to reserve a computer or a study table. It’s super buggy and I don’t think they’re doing it 100% but it’s something. Our IT is using the same program for students to reserve a computer in their labs.

I can run reports and get the names of students who were here. We’re limiting library services to current students and employees this quarter.

It appears that we’re averaging about 50 people through the front doors between 10am – 2pm, so it’s not busy like in the BeforeTimes when it was hundreds an hour during busy times.

Thanks,

Hi all,

How many of you have students sign-in/sign-out when coming to the library? This is mainly for contact tracing purposes. We are fully vaccinated, but we are not being asked to confirm if the student has completed the attestation. Visitors are allowed on campus but we are discouraging them in the Library.

I saw a couple of notes in the reopening plans<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fspreadsheets%2Fd%2F1SYFHp451KC8l3TZawbYdI93KZYW4CVvKau0js8xnc4w%2Fedit%23gid%3D0&data=04%7C01%7Cheath.hayden%40bellevuecollege.edu%7C685cdb339e184e867c6308d9843db73d%7Cf94c251c1347422eb3ea8ac56befd6cb%7C0%7C0%7C637686222880281109%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=M3VRlD93Ga%2FSx9jzX46HCFYVvGom178bIAIRuNc1dIk%3D&reserved=0> document but assume there are more at this point.

Thanks,
