[LIBRARYDIR] ProQuest Video Platform

We just finished a 3-month trial of AVON and are purchasing it for the coming year to run alongside FOD, FilmPlatform, and a limited Kanopy implementation. It would be nice if we can just get one tool for all the video, but that's not the case in the current market.

AVON has gotten pretty good use during our trial and appears worth the price. We're purchasing through Orbis so that may help us out in the cost.

it is worth keeping in mind though that WSL's contract is with ProQuest and while I'm not sure about the previous contract, past contracts had language that libraries who buy additional ProQuest products should receive an additional discount.

Subject: [LIBRARYDIR] ProQuest Video Platform

Hey all,

I was just emailed by our ProQuest rep about Academic Video Online (AVON)<https://nam02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Falexanderstreet.com%2Fproducts%2Facademic-video-online&data=02%7C01%7Cferraria%40evergreen.edu%7C7a92d06bb6e34202d14f08d705695726%7C22adcff7c06f49a68f2050711c40ddaa%7C0%7C0%7C636983822309429808&sdata=BBlSLvMlfwEdATvpSs2SFjcqoO6oorN5vVnewy2%2BDPk%3D&reserved=0>, their online video service. There was a recent ALA thread about how some folks are using it over other platforms, like Kanopy, so LWTech will take a look and probably start a free trial in the near future.

Anyway, I asked the rep if there had been chats about system-wide bargaining and that isn’t the case, but if there were 5-10 interested CTCs, a mini buying club deal could be entertained. So my question for this thread is, who is considering this product and has yet to start a subscription? For the system as a whole, what are your thoughts on the “mini buying club deal” as a concept—is it a worthwhile approach to databases? I will say that group purchasing came up during the recent Technical College Libraries Meeting last quarter as something various librarians would like to investigate.

And another question: for those of you already using AVON, how is it?
