[LIBRARYDIR] EBSCO Faculty Select survey

Just FYI, an alternative option perhaps worth considering alongside Faculty Select is the Merlot project out of the California State University system (www.merlot.org<http://www.merlot.org>)

Merlot, I think, offers some similar functionality to Faculty Select (searching OER, creating saved citation sets). And already offers a freely available discovery tool for searching over 40,000 Open Education resources.

In addition, non-profit and for-profit partners can join the project, for purposes of both collaboration and receiving additional services and consultation. (http://info.merlot.org/merlothelp/topic.htm#t=Become_a_Partner.htm )

The system partnership cost (which I believe the CTCs as a group would qualify for) is $25k  / year. Which would be less than $1,000 / school for the CTCs.

And Merlot might give the SBCTC folks a good outlet for sharing their ongoing OER efforts and content outside of the state.

Hi folks,

I have gotten 17 responses to the Faculty Select interest survey I sent out last week.  Tomorrow, George Dragich is giving a presentation to Boyoung Chae and other State Board staff on Faculty Select.  I thought it would be helpful to Boyoung to see how much interest there is in this product.  I am hopeful that the State Board will help us with a subsidy since it supports OER.  The survey includes questions asking your interest in the product and your interest if the State Board helps us pay for it.
