[LIBRARYDIR] Questions for Deans/Directors of Tutoring

Melinda and Erica, I'm not over tutoring though the main center is housed in the library building. Would you like to know the setup/fees/funding if it doesn't fall under the library? I can certainly get a summary for you.

Cost coverage: it seems to be out of the basic budget allocation. We charge students a comprehensive fee, rather than batches of individual fees.

Staffing: we have a coordinator, exempt, who oversees the "Learning Center." We also have a tenure track faculty position who both runs the "Writing Center" and teaches a regular English Comp class each quarter. The WC's coverage is defined by him teaching a 2 credit writing lab class that officially meets 4 times per day, which defines his complete load for the quarter. We also have work study, and occasionally some part time employees in each, but mostly when we need help that w.s. don't provide. I don't have numbers-at this time only the LC actually answers to me.

Remember we are in the middle of co-locating both of these centers into one central location-that will probably happen over Summer before it's complete. Any administrative changes-having the WC answer to me, for example-just hasn't been an issue that has raised a problem yet, so I haven't thought about it.

And a few follow up questions as we are looking to get more staffing support at OC. We currently have one full-time admin exempt director who oversees all of our tutoring on three campuses. And 60-80 part-time tutors.

Who oversees your tutoring services? Do you have one director or multiple? Are they admin exempt or classified?

How many full-time staff/tutors? How many part-time?

Thanks,
Erica

If you are over tutoring services, how are tutoring costs covered at your school? Do students pay a fee at registration? If so, how much? We charge a $5 fee at registration, and all tutoring services are covered for students. We are thinking of raising the fee.

Thank you!
