Action Research in the Library
a workshop for
Librarians Supporting Student Success in
Community and Technical Colleges
December 7 - 8, 2017

The Action Research in the Library workshop will provide you with the tools you need to:

  *   Identify institutional priorities and campus partners,
  *   Design an assessment project grounded in action research, and
  *   Prepare a plan for communicating the project results.
The workshop, including meals and housing, is funded with a LSTA Grant from the Washington State Library and sponsored by the Washington State Community and Technical Colleges' Library Leadership Council.

The Workshop is free to charge for CTC librarians and staff.
Grant funds are available to reimburse travel expenses.
(Please note that colleges need to submit an A-19 to Peninsula College for reimbursement of travel expenses, based on actual expenses related to travel over 50 miles)


Following the workshop, attendees will be encouraged to submit a mini-grant proposal to develop and implement a research project and to share their research findings .  Details about the Action Research Mini-Grant program will be released at the Workshop.

 MEET YOUR WORKSHOP TRAINERS







Debra Gilchrist, Ph.D.



Deb Gilchrist, Ph.D. is Vice President for Learning and Student Success at Pierce College.  She also leads efforts focused on regional accreditation and achievement of institutional outcomes at Pierce College. Prior to this position, she served as Dean of Libraries and Institutional Effectiveness.  She has published and presented at numerous conferences and campuses on outcomes assessment as a tool for change, demonstrating the contributions of academic libraries through assessment of both learning and program impact and quality.  Her doctoral dissertation focused on the leadership role of academic librarians to influence instructional change.







Melanie Sellar



Melanie Sellar is a Senior Instructional Designer at Loyola Marymount University's (LMU) School of Education and Adjunct Professor in the iSchool at San Jose State University.  Before moving to LMU, Melanie served for five years as the Education Services Librarian at MaryMount California University, where she held the rank of Associate Professor of Information Literacy.  Melanie founded the non-profit organization Librarians without Borders(LWB) in 2005 and has served nearly continuously as its Co-Executive Director since that time.











 The Action Research in Libraries Workshop is funded by a LSTA Grant from the Washington State Library
