[LIBRARYDIR] Student survey: Affordable cost for class materials

Dear LLC,

Thank you for your support in instituting & implementing the codes to label courses that use OER or low-cost materials. This message is a follow up regarding the textbook affordability survey<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/textbook-affordability> that was recently sent out to students (see the attachment for a copy of the survey).

SBCTC eLearning & Open Education assisted the Washington Community and Technical Colleges Student Association (WACTCSA) in the creation of a survey meant to gauge students' threshold of what is considered low cost for course materials. WACTCSA independently drove the distribution process, schedule, and a timeline of data collection with support from SBCTC. The number of responses has grown over the last week (4500 as of today - from just 50% of the schools) and WACTCSA is extending the deadline to the end of November with the hopes of gathering feedback from all campuses.

If you'd like to participate in the distribution of the survey, please contact your student government leaders, or let us know and we will connect you with WACTCSA leadership. We learned that, at some colleges, the support of the library office has greatly helped the students in the distribution process. Below are some of the strategies used:


*         placing the survey announcement on the library website

*         having a meeting with the student senate or leadership groups and discussing ideas

*         setting up iPads outside of the student senate room with survey

*         giving out tiny pieces of paper with a shortened URL to the survey
