[LIBRARYDIR] Noting donor endowments in catalog

Hi, Erica,

Peninsula uses the 590 (local note) field: Donated by Jane Doe in memory of John Doe.

Sometimes we include additional 590 fields in the same record with language like :
Purchased through the Peninsula College Foundation, and/or
The Constitutional Studies Collection.

These were searchable in Voyager, and we created a tab in the OPAC that we named Donated Collections. In Alma, we discovered that the 590s weren't immediately searchable. We had to activate the 590 in the search indexes under the resource configuration menu. Now, they can be found with an advanced search for physical titles, with the added condition of Local Note.

Sorry I'm chiming in so late - I was out for a bit and it took me a while to drill down through my email. Hope you can still use the information. :)

We have endowed collections and would like to put a note in the catalog record for the books purchased with this funding.

Examples found so far:

University of Texas Libraries - has a "Donor Note" field
Donor note    Emily Knauss Library Endowment for the Liberal Arts


Georgetown - uses Alt Author
Alt Author    Endowment fund: Bernard Blommer Memorial Book Fund donor
