Mindy, Erica and I met online earlier this week to discuss this very idea. We are drafting a document to share at the winter LLC meeting. Let us know if you have ideas or suggestions to contribute.

I also agree that library support would best be presented in the context of all the supports BAS programs will need. I wonder if counselors and/or advisors are having similar conversations.

I would add that I wish the LLC would consider drafting some letter to all the 2 year administrations on support for libraries re: growth of new BAS programs.
If we could do this, we'd all have a strong foundation for our requests for funding and personnel rather than each creating the wheel.
We have 1 full time librarian (FT Temp) for BAS programs. I'm asking for it to be made full time. We currently have 8 BAS programs with 3 (I think) more in the hopper.
And so far only 1 program has provided funding - initially it was $10k, but in following years it has been reduced to $7k. (I'm not sure what the history is on that).

It is important to learn about the proposals before submission to ensure you seriously discuss library support and materials before approval. Many programs do not know what they need or the costs associated. It is also good to band together with student support as there are many support structures needing additional funding with these new programs.

Our BAS Director, Chris Bell is meeting with our VP of instruction and accounting to find out how to get the submitted budget line items to stream into areas it was intended to fund. Our proposal requires a signature from the library - I want to require sustained funding from each new BAS program for ongoing costs for material and personnel. At least that's the plan.

I wrote up my notes from the conference and I attended the session that included library services.  I've attached the notes to this email.  Erica and Vivienne also attended.  Vivienne sat on the panel to represent library services.  Either of them may have a different perspective.
