State Board to vote on 2021 community, technical college system legislative priorities

OLYMPIA, Wash. — The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges<https://sbctc.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=deef59f1d8ee1e991514ca276&id=552da76e69&e=eac0b86a7d> will meet for its regular business meeting Wednesday, Dec. 2 from 1 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., during which the board is expected to vote on the college system's 2021 legislative priorities. The priorities focus on ensuring colleges have the resources they need equitably help students during the state's economic recovery. The legislative agenda includes the college system's operating and capital budget requests. The operating budget request asks the Legislature to:

  *   Protect the Workforce Education Investment Act, passed by the Legislature in 2019
  *   Invest in an equitable economic recovery by ensuring all students can be successful in an online learning environment and redesigning curricula to be antiracist
  *   Support workforce training by increasing capacity in the Worker Retraining Program<https://sbctc.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=deef59f1d8ee1e991514ca276&id=493e21fdd2&e=eac0b86a7d>, Jobs Skills Program<https://sbctc.us8.list-manage.com/track/click?u=deef59f1d8ee1e991514ca276&id=dd37e9f9a1&e=eac0b86a7d>, and in high-demand programs like nursing, allied health, information technology, computer science, and advanced manufacturing
The $776 million capital budget request would fund projects 32 major projects at 29 colleges, support ongoing maintenance at colleges throughout the state and provide alternative financing for projects at three colleges.
