What Kind of Support is Available if I am Part of the Control Group?
I'm available to support you and answer all your questions about how to invite students to the survey if you decide to be part of this very important control group.

What are the Benefits if I Participate?
If you are a faculty member who teaches at one of the 34 CTC's who is interested in being part of the control, one of the benefits to you is that the end of the quarter, you will receive a personalized instructor report with the results. PS-Here is more information for those who would like to know!

Who is this Request From and Why Should I Care?
For those of you who don't know me, I'm Jen Whetham, and I'm the program administrator of faculty development here at SBCTC in the Assessment, Teaching, and Learning Department. As you know, we have 34 Community and Technical Colleges in Washington State, and we employ about 11,500 faculty to teach in our 34 CTCs.

My primary role is to provide strategic direction for professional development of the collective in ways that align and support with SBCTC Executive Jan Yoshiwara's goals for the system:

1) Increase the completions of ALL students

2) Close opportunity gaps through a rigorous focus on equity

3) Address the system-level enrollment crisis

As a system, we are committed to Guided Pathways as the current "best thinking" in terms of how to achieve these goals, and as a former faculty member in our system, I am very committed to the fourth design pillar of a guided pathways approach, which is ensure student learning.

Because we are approaching Guided Pathways in Washington State with equity as the goal, I think a lot about that notion of ensuring (love that verb) the quality and equity of learning experiences for ALL students as the primary driver of achieving the large-scale policy student success outcomes such as completions, retentions, progressions, etc.

What is the Purpose of This Request?
My office, Assessment, Teaching, and Learning (ATL), is currently running a large-scale system-level professional learning opportunity called 2,1,1 TILT: The Equitable Assignment Challenge. The purpose is to explore the impact of transparent teaching methods, particularly transparent assignment design, on student learning in the way I described above.

Ensuring the quality and equity of learning experiences for ALL students as the primary driver of achieving the large-scale policy student success outcomes such as completions, retentions, progressions, etc.

We are looking in particular to see the impact of transparent instruction on ALL students in three primary indicators of student success:

*       sense of academic confidence,

*       sense of belonging,

* sense of gaining employer-valued skills.

I Need More Details
We currently have over 200 faculty from all three mission areas (Basic Education for Adults, Academic Transfer, and Professional-Technical) from 22 schools participating. Spring Quarter 2019, these 200 faculty members will

1) "TILT" 2 assignments and teach them in 1 section Spring quarter 2019

2) Invite students to take a pre-survey<http://bit.ly/2TmBY22> to establish a baseline in regards to these three indicators

3) Invite students to take a post-survey<http://bit.ly/2U5YWi0> at the end of the quarter to assess if there is a statistically significant increase in these three areas

The Principal Investigator, Mary-Ann Winkelmes, has asked if there are faculty in our system who are NOT TILT-ing who might be willing to invite students to take the pre-survey (during Week One or Week Two of Spring Quarter 2019) and post-survey during the final week of the quarter.

I Have More Questions and/or Concerns
Please call, text, or e-mail Jen!
