Dear Friends,

I just signed up for the free webinar described below: "Addressing Racial Bias and Microaggressions in Online Environments."

  * The mission of the Center for Organizational Responsibility and Advancement (CORA) is to support the development of educators in advancing their capacity to serve historically underrepresented and underserved students.
  * Drs. Frank Harris III and J. Luke Wood, Co-Directors of the Community College Equity Assessment Lab (CCEAL) at San Diego State University, have already delivered two exceptional webinars on equity-minded student services and teaching practices the online environment that I have found to be both inspiring and practical as we think about fulfilling the SBCTC vision<http://bit.ly/SBCTCVISION> to lead with racial equity ... now more than ever during this pandemic.
  * Dr. Frank Harris III will be a keynote speaker at the upcoming Washington Center Summer Institute for Improving Undergraduate Education<http://bit.ly/2OQTI6D> in July 2020. This event is now virtual: I hope many of our campuses will consider using its guided pathways funding to send a team to this extraordinary and unique event.

For those of you already familiar with CORA and these exceptional scholar-practitioners, I apologize for cluttering your inbox during this time. However, I felt it was very important to ensure the news of this professional learning opportunity is delivered to as many people as possible, especially given a follow-up opportunity to learn from Dr. Frank Harris III this summer.

The transition to online instruction and student services in response to COVID-19 presents a substantial challenge for most postsecondary institutions. Among the most pervasive challenges are issues with racial bias and racial microaggressions that serve to impede the student experience. In an environment typified by time constraints, stress, and the unknown – racial strife is at an all-time high. This webinar will focus on strategies that educators can use to address issues of bias and microaggressions in order to meet the needs of historically underrepresented and underserved students in the online environment. The conversation will be facilitated by Drs. Frank Harris III and J. Luke Wood.
