Happy New Year DEOC 😊

I’m adding a part-time employee to my team and our HR Executive Director is curious if there are other positions like this within our ctc system. There has to be but I think this surfaces a larger concern that positions in our areas are not adequately cataloged in the state wide salary assessment/salary comparison analysis. I don’t want this position to be undervalued/underpaid as a result.

Do you have something similar on your campus and would you mind sharing the job posting/salary? The title is still in draft phase and I’m open to feedback. I want to be very clear about the priorities of this position.


Title: Black & African American Belonging Specialist/Coordinator

Position Objective:

Clover Park Technical College Division of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion is seeking a person with strong experience providing services and developing programs for BIPOC populations, with special emphasis on Black/African American students. In addition to program development and mentorship, this position also requires developing culturally appropriate outreach activities/events for Black/African American prospective students; engaging in relevant professional development; serving on departmental, divisional, and college-wide projects and committees directly related to this role.

Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions):

  *   Lead and support culturally appropriate outreach initiatives for Black/African American prospective students in collaboration with Outreach and Entry Services.
  *   Develop a pre-college early outreach program designed specifically for community members from underrepresented groups with special emphasis on Black/African American students (i.e. summer bridge).
  *   Build a system approach to providing mentorship opportunities for newly admitted Black/African American students.
  *   Design and implement O-EDI programs that foster a sense of belonging through intentional programming and activities geared towards Black/African American students.
  *   Provide consultation services to staff and faculty as a cultural specialist.
