Hello everyone!!

I am very excited to be joining this group. I met with Sophia today via Zoom and hope to see many of you on Friday at our monthly DEOC meeting.

About me -- (a rough draft for the CBC website that I'll share with you)

Dr. Luz Garza joined Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Washington in February 2023. Prior to joining CBC, she was the Dean of General Education at Arizona College of Nursing in Las Vegas. Born and raised in Sunnyside, Washington, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Washington State University and her Master of Arts degree in Applied Psychology from Eastern Washington University. After spending seven years as an elementary school counselor and Counseling President in the Sunnyside School district she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada.  While teaching part-time as an adjunct professor, running a tutoring business, and teaching Zumba fitness classes there, she earned her Ph.D. in Health Psychology in an online program from Northcentral University.

Although Luz enjoyed working in higher education in Nevada, she is excited to return to her home state where she joins Columbia Basin College as the Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. She is an advocate for safe educational environments that change lives and is honored to serve the diverse families and communities of Washington.
