Subject: [DEOC] Ethnic Background Code Implementation

Hello DEOC,

Just wanted to share this update from one of the committees I've been serving in (DemoCom). As you can see from the announcement below, we are finally moving forward to implement the ethnic background codes in CS and HCM.

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,

Margarita

Good afternoon,

We are pleased to announce additional ethnic background categories will be implemented in ctcLink for both Campus Solutions (CS) and Human Capital Management (HCM).

When

SBCTC Application Services is currently working to add about 256 ethnic background codes across all race categories (as well as deactivating a few). These new codes should be available in the live environment on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.

What do I need to do?

Nothing! Some colleges plan to send a communication to their employees and students inviting them to update their demographic data in ctcLink. While this is a great idea, it is not required.

This addition does not change any ctcLink functionality; it just adds more options for employees and students to select ethnic codes which best reflect their identity.

Background

The systemwide Data Governance Committee (DGC) subcommittee for demographics (DemoCom) developed a two-part proposal to add several missing ethnic background codes to both CS and HCM to:

* Provide a methodology for evaluating ethnic background requests moving forward

* Align the collection of race and ethnicity data to our state's diverse population as well as with the race and ethnicity information collected in our state's K-12 system.

The DGC sent the proposal out to the system for input, incorporated the feedback, and approved the proposal at its June 16, 2022 meeting. For greater detail, see the attached approved proposal.

You can also find all the details in the ctcLink Reference Center in Enhancement Requests<https://ctclinkreferencecenter.ctclink.us/m/112604/c/391585> under CS/HCM Enhancement Request#145 (FYI) Adding Additional Ethnic Background Codes to CS and HCM (Working Group Decision Date 06-22-2022)<https://ctclinkreferencecenter.ctclink.us/m/112604/l/1589391-enhancement-requests#cs-hcm-er-145-fyi-adding-additional-ethnic-background-codes-to-cs-and-hcm-wg-decision-date-6-22-2022>.

We hope you will find this change makes ctcLink more inclusive and welcoming to our many communities. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Carmen
