[ctcLinkfinaidsupport] Some colleges have been selecting the 2023-2024 WASFA aid year and trying to upload them into PS for 2022-2023

Good afternoon FA Users!

Since October 1st, the 2023-2024 WASFAs have been available to download on the WSAC Portal. Many have noticed that the selection of the aid year defaults to 2023-2024 while others have not. Please be careful! 😆

If you did not select 2022-2023 aid year when downloading the file and attempted to load the WASFA into PS, you would have received a "Message Class not found" error in your Process Monitor message log.

While it would have been nice if we could tell you to simply open up the WASFA files you downloaded since October 1st and look to see if the first character in the file is a "3" (indicating 2022-2023 WASFA) and not a "4" (indicating 2023-2024 WASFA), WSAC confirmed that they had not made updates in the system so both 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 WASFA files are being marked as "3." 😥

The screenshot below is a WASFA 2023-2024 file but as you can see, they are noted as "3." Thankfully, PS did not mistakenly process the file even with the indicator because the header size doesn't match what is allowable for 2022-2023.

Action to take


  *   Search for the process instances since October 1st, where you uploaded a WASFA file


Navigation: Nav Bar > People Tools > Process Scheduler > Process Monitor


     *   If you load WASFA through the ISIR Jobset, you’d look up your ISIR Jobset, select the Process Name: xxxISIR not the Details, select FA_INBOUND then select Message Log

     *   If you load WASFA outside of the the ISIR Jobset, you’d look up FA_INBOUND, select Details then select Message Log

  *   Look to see if you see “Message Class not found,” for your WASFA file like the screenshot below

  *   If you don’t see any with that error message, you’ve been selecting the 2022-2023 aid year when downloading the WASFA! Yay 👍
  *   If you see the error message, you’ll want to go back to the WSAC Portal and redownload the WASFA file after selecting 2022-2023 this time and make sure to include that date range 😊

WSAC will be updating the file layout so that in the future, you’d be able to open up the file and see “4” if you accidentally selected 2023-2024 WASFA files instead of the 2022-2023 WASFA files.

***NOTE: 2023-2024 ISIR/WASFA applications cannot be loaded into the system until the Image containing 23/24 components has been installed. This installation is anticipated for December 17th.
