Every day we make decisions, without giving it much thought, such as deciding whether we're going to have eggs or cereal for breakfast. But the stakes are much higher when it comes to more complex decisions, and we may overlook important considerations and possibilities if we rely solely on intuition or past experiences.
As our colleges begin exploring, developing or implementing guided pathways, we must consider how decision-making impacts the success - or failure - of our students.
As one example, guided pathways seeks to move us away from the 'cafeteria-style' model, in which students face an almost dizzying array of program choices, to a more manageable set of options to consider - these are meta majors.
For practitioners looking to design meta majors that work for students and educators, understanding the art and science of decision making will greatly and positively impact our work and how we serve our students.
Registration Fee: $175 for participants from member colleges; $275 for non-members.
Conference begins at 8:30; concludes at 3:30. Lunch and all materials are included in registration fee.
