Dear Colleagues of Accessibility & Universal Design

North Idaho College (NIC) will be hosting an event called Pave the Way to Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.<http://www.nic.edu/modules/images/websites/211/file/PavetheWayforGlobalAccessibilityAwarenessDay(GAAD).ics> This free event will be held in the Lake Coeur d’Alene room on the second floor of the Edminster Student Union Building<https://goo.gl/maps/oFWdpMQ9Tgv> (URL: https://goo.gl/maps/oFWdpMQ9Tgv) at our main campus in Coeur d’Alene, ID.

We are proud to host this event focusing on the following goals:

1. Awareness of universal design and accessibility efforts at the NIC campus and surrounding communities.

2. Motivate attendees to make a difference on GAAD (May 16, 2019) by making an effective, meaningful contribution toward helping someone with a disability and/or furthering inclusivity of technology.

3. Social Media engagement using hashtags (i.e., #GAAD, #GAAD2019, #NICA11y) and sharing examples/ideas for celebrating Global Accessibility Awareness Day<http://globalaccessibilityawarenessday.org/> prior to May 16, 2019.

Following the vision of GAAD founders Joe Devon & Jennison Asuncion, we at NIC want anyone and everyone who has any level of interest or experience in accessibility, universal design, technology and/or higher education to come and collaborate with us on making the world a little bit more inclusive. If we can make 1% percent improvement in any area, we believe we will then see how to make 2% improvement and so on.

If you cannot attend the event in-person, but still want to see what the buzz is about, then check out https://www.nic.edu/a11y the week of the event for links to the live stream on Zoom, Facebook Live and YouTube Live.

North Idaho College encourages persons with disabilities to participate in its programs and activities. If you anticipate needing any type of accommodation or have questions about the physical access provided, please contact Jeremy Seda at (208) 929-4030 or Jeremy.Seda at nic.edu in advance of your participation or visit.
